The Macdonald Monument in Dingwall has reopened to the public after a refurbishment programme paid for by funding including a grant of £175,000 from The Highland Council.

The 30 metre high monument which contains 127 steps was built in 1907 and gives visitors who climb to the top a view across Dingwall and the surrounding area. It is dedicated to Major General Sir Hector Macdonald known as Fighting Mac, who fought in various wars and was an aide to Queen Victoria. The campaign to have the monument reopened has been running for more than 10 years with completion coinciding with the eight hundredth anniversary of Dingwall being granted Royal Burgh status.
