Several Wester Ross hospitality businesses have been included as finalists in this year’s Food Awards Scotland celebrating the best of Scotland’s thriving food and hospitality industry and recognising the dedication, passion and hard work of the staff involved.

The Seafood Shack and The Dipping Lugger, both in Ullapool, have been nominated in the best Seafood Restaurant and Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year categories respectively while Shieldaig Lodge on the Gairloch Overside is listed in the Hotel Restaurant of the Year section. The Aultguish Inn, near Garve, is a nominee for the Scottish Inn/ Restaurant of the Year award.

The winners will be decided by a public vote open until 30th July and will be announced at a ceremony in Glasgow on 17th August.

 

Runie and Keanchulish (“keenhoolish”) Estate, extending to almost 8000 acres around 5 miles north of Ullapool has been put on the market for sale at an asking price of offers over £4.5 million pounds.

The estate is partially crofted and includes a nine bedroom lodge, two other houses and a range of other buildings along with fishing and shooting rights. The selling agents say significant volumes of peatland are held which may have potential for restoration and carbon capture.

 

Celtic rock band, Skerryvore, formed on Tiree, has added a concert in Inverness to its touring schedule later this year. It will play ten venues in Scotland including Inverness Leisure Centre on Friday 4th December.

Meanwhile, renowned soul music DJ from New York, Matt Weingarden aka Mr Fine Wine, is among several highly regarded DJs from across Scotland, England and the United States appearing at a one day event in Inverness on Saturday 22nd August. The event known as Ready Steady Go Go, will run from 2pm until 1am the following morning and along with soul music, will also feature rhythm & blues, reggae and vintage dance music.
