Louise Pearson has been appointed the new CEO of Gairloch and Loch Ewe Action Forum. She is currently GALE’s Creative Co-ordinator and Board Administrator.

Louise moved to Wester Ross in 2016 and developed a strong interest in supporting local communities and place-based initiatives.

A freelance community development specialist, she is also Community Officer for Wester Ross Biosphere and Senior Advisor with Wester Ross Consultancy.

Louise will begin her new role in September.


A Seaforth Highlander, who died in World War two, has had specimens of his brain reunited with his remains in his Berlin war grave.

Donnie MacRae was born in Badachro in 1907 and died in 1941 in a prisoner-of-war hospital from a rare neurological condition. 

His brain had been removed for research purposes and remaining tissue was only discovered by researchers almost 80 years later.

Two of Donnie’s relatives attended the ceremony.


Disabled motorists across the region have raised concerns over planned changes to the Motability scheme, fearing higher costs and reduced access to transport.

The scheme enables eligible people to lease a vehicle using part of their disability benefits and is vital for work, healthcare and daily life.

Motability plans to introduce lower mileage allowances and higher insurance excess charges elsewhere in the UK from July. 

Implementation in Scotland has been delayed during talks with the Scottish Government, but uncertainty remains, with campaigners warning rural areas could be hardest hit.


The Scottish Professional Football League has announced its league fixtures for the coming season.

The first weekend of matches will see Ross County having an away game against Peterhead in League One …
………while Inverness Caley Thistle plays at home in the Championship against Dunfermline 
Athletic. 

Both fixtures are scheduled to be played on Saturday 1st August with kick off at 3 o'clock.
