Ullapool’s Seafood Shack, which has spent the last decade serving from a food trailer on West Argyle Street, is set to move into a permanent home.
Although the core concept and values will remain, the new space will offer staff a more comfortable environment.
With a better-equipped and more efficient kitchen, the owners plan to develop fresh and innovative dishes building on past successes, which include a book and a TV feature with Mary Berry.
The new plans will see a timber-clad single-story building, with external seating, in the same location as the food van.
The Highland Council has announced the appointment of James Welsh as Chief Officer – Enterprise and Investment.
Prior to his current post with Associated British Ports, Mr Welsh played important roles at Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils, concentrating on planning, economic development and attracting inward investment.
His appointment finalizes the new senior management structure for the Council’s Place service cluster outlined in the 2024/25 budget plan.
The new arrangement streamlines the senior team from three layers down to two, aligning Highland Council with comparable local authorities.
Salmon Scotland has acknowledged it released inaccurate data that understated antibiotic use in farmed fish in 2024.
The trade body, which represents multinational salmon farming firms in the Highlands and Islands, admitted that it had underreported its antibiotic usage to the UK Government’s Veterinary Medicines Directorate, by sixty-six per cent.
Arianne Burges MSP said that this was a really concerning admission which seriously undermines the credibility of Salmon Scotland and the claims they make about the impact of their industry.
