Demand for social housing remains high across the Highlands, with almost nine thousand households currently registered for a home or transfer.
A new report from the Highland Housing Register shows that over one-point-five households were accommodated during 2025/26.
Although the overall number of social rented homes has increased, fewer properties became available for re-let, as more tenants successfully sustained their tenancies.
The report says many applicants would consider other options, including private renting, mid-market rent and low-cost home ownership, if more properties were available.
The Highland Housing Register continues to allocate homes to those assessed as being in greatest housing need.
Community groups across Scotland are being offered increased support to install renewable energy projects and make their buildings more energy efficient.
Funding through the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) will rise to fifteen-million pounds this year.
The money will help communities develop projects, including onshore wind and solar, as well as install heat pumps and solar panels to reduce energy bills.
CARES has already provided more than eighty-three million pounds, supporting over one thousand projects and seventy-five megawatts of renewable energy capacity.
The fund will be supplemented by two million pounds from the National Lottery Community Fund.
