CalMac Ferries has launched the CalMac Community Fund…

The Fund is designed to help non-profit organisations across the islands and the coastal ports where CalMac operates. Applications are welcomed from projects which support mental health, loneliness and poverty. 

A well loved Ullapool Chip shop has once again been listed as a finalist for 3 Categories in the Annual Scottish Fish and Chip Awards.

Deli ca Sea, on Shore Street, has been listed as a finalist for the Best Fish Supper Highlands and Islands, Best Restaurant and also Best Fish Fryer categories. Over the coming weeks the Chippy and Restaurant will be visited by Judges, with the winners being announced at the Gala Final in Glasgow on the 9th November. 

The National Mod returns to Glasgow at the Royal Concert Hall next week. 

Many Soloists and Choirs from the Highlands and Islands will be preparing to make the journey to take part over 3 days next week from 14th to 16th October. Participants will be competing in the Gaelic solo and Choral competitions, including the Gold Medal, The Traditional Gold Medal, The Rural Choirs and the Area Choirs. Some of the proceedings will be televised on live TV. 

And in the weekend’s football news: 

Both Ross County and Inverness Caley Thistle have league fixtures tomorrow. County, currently unbeaten and top of League One, travel to play Montrose which is in fourth place, seven points behind having played a game more. Caley Thistle's match is at home against Stenhousemuir which leads the Championship, unbeaten and twelve points above Caley Thistle. Both games kick off at three o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
