Former Gairloch High School Pupil Eoin Cumming has been selected as one of the six finalists at this years Young Traditional Musician Award.
The semi-finals were held last weekend at BBC Pacific Quay in Glasgow and the judges, after difficult deliberations, chose 6 talented young finalists. Eoin Cumming on the Accordion will compete along with the 5 other finalists for the trophy at Celtic Connections at City Halls, Glasgow on Sunday 31st January 2027. Eoin was initially educated at Gairloch High School, followed by a year at the Traditional Music School in Plockton and a Degree at the University of Edinburgh.
Caledonian MacBrayne and Ullapool Harbour Trust has announced that the Passenger Access Service at Ullapool Harbour has been fixed.
The Passenger Walkway failed at the weekend at the Ullapool Port, and since then passengers have been required to embark and disembark via the car deck itself. However, Ullapool Harbour Trust has fixed the issue with the replacement parts and the walkway is now fully functional. The passenger walkway in Stornoway remains out of action.
Highland List MSP Maree Todd has raised a motion with the UK Government that parcel delivery charges in the Highlands and Islands Areas are unfair.
Ms Todd, has written to the UK Government asking for action on parcel delivery costs after some research has found that there is a significant difference in costs for their services within the Highlands and Islands Areas. A Consumer Scotland Report listed the facts that there were persistent problems, especially across the Islands, including additional delivery charges, as well as some Retailers refusing to deliver to these areas.
