This year’s visit of PS Waverley to Wester Ross and the Inner Hebrides starts next week with sailings from various venues including Kyle of Lochalsh, Portree and Gairloch.

The Waverley is celebrating 80 years since she was built in Glasgow for the London and North Eastern Railway company to replace a previous PS Waverley which was sunk in 1940 while helping to evacuate troops from Dunkirk.

The current vessel is the World’s last seagoing paddle steamer and will be the first paddle steamer to offer a trip circumnavigating the Isle of Skye. Her now annual visit to Gairloch is on Friday 15th May. Full details are on the PS Waverley’s website.

Following Ross County Football Club’s relegation to League One, six out of contract players have left the club along with eight loan players who have returned to their parent clubs.

Also leaving the coaching staff is assistant manager John Robertson.

However the club has announced the permanent appointment of Stuart Kettlewell as First Team Manager assisted by Stephen Frail. Club Chairman Roy MacGregor commented that he believes Kettlewell has the right skillset, traits and affinity with the club and the Highlands to take it forward and that the board considers it can learn from the journey the club has been on in the last few seasons and from the mistakes made, taking the opportunity to reset and rebuild and actually build something more sustainable and resilient than before.
