Apart from the grant of £45,000 previously reported, for the construction of a full scale replica of an Iron Age Roundhouse at Gairloch Museum, Highland Council’s Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh committee has also approved Ward Discretionary Fund applications for other local projects.
Torridon District Community Association will receive £1,000 to replace a stair lift at Loch Torridon Community Centre, Torridon District Community Association will receive £978 for the purchase of a defibrillator for the Community First Responder Scheme, Aultbea Men’s Shed will receive £1,126 for the purchase of a corrugated roof for a second shed and the Toybox Children’s Centre in Gairloch will be awarded £930 for staff training and learning to support Best Start for Children.
A holiday home in Gairloch has been named as a winner in the Holiday Homes of the Year Awards 2026 promoted by home rental organization, Vrbo.
The house known as The Lighthouse overlooks Flowerdale Bay and is the only Scottish property included in the awards.
The Lighthouse has previously received a Green Tourism Award and according to Vrbo, it takes its name from the light which fills all its rooms given its prominent position.
