The new Portree lifeboat, RNLB Peter and Mary, has undergone the traditional bell ringing ceremony at the RNLI's all-weather lifeboat centre in Dorset.

During the ceremony, the state-of-the-art Shannon class vessel was lowered into the water, signalling the ‘end of the watch’ for the previous lifeboat, the thirty-year-old RNLB Stanley Watson Barker.

The new RNLI lifeboat, designed and built in-house, uses water jets instead of propellers, reaches 25 knots, and is their smallest and lightest all-weather model.

The upgrade is being delivered as part of the RNLI 2040 lifeboat fleet strategy.

Tesco has suspended dealings with a Skye fish farm after reports of diseased fish being dumped and live salmon suffocating.

Bakkafrost Scotland called it an ‘isolated incident’ at its Portree site, which is now fallow.

The Green Britain Foundation linked the events to a disease outbreak that killed thousands of fish, and supported the suspension.

The RSPCA has approved Bakkafrost's response.

….. and in the weekend football …

In the SPFL Championship, Ross County was beaten two-one on Saturday by Greenock Morton and falls back to the foot of the league, two points behind Queens Park, which is its opponent in the next two league matches.

In League One, Inverness Caley Thistle was held to a two each draw by Queen of the South, but retains its place at the top of the league on goal difference from Stenhousemuir, which also could only draw its match on Saturday.
