More roadworks are scheduled to start this week in the Highland area.
Surfacing improvements on the A96 near Inverness Airport lasting from last night until Saturday 12th July are taking place with some overnight road closures between 7.30pm and 6.30am except for Friday and Saturday nights. Temporary traffic lights will also be in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm each weekday from today till Friday 11th July.
Overnight work is also scheduled for the A82 south of Drumnadrochit for three nights from tonight until Thursday and for the A9 Raigmore interchange for four nights from tonight until Friday. The A9 work is preliminary to the introduction of full-time traffic signal control with improved links for vulnerable road users. The works involve ground penetrating radar surveys and trial pits to assess ground conditions and ascertain the location and depth of underground services.
Also this week, on the A835 at Loch Garve, geophysical work is being carried out to establish the depth of bedrock below the road to enable repairs to be carried out to the safety barrier and supporting wall which were damaged in 2024. The surveys will take place over three days starting tomorrow, Tuesday, between 9am and 5pm under the existing temporary traffic lights then on Wednesday and Thursday between 7pm and midnight with a 10mph convoy in operation.
The Ullapool Sea Savers were given an Outdoor Learning and Environment Award at the Youth Link Scotland National Youth Work Awards ceremony held in Glasgow recently.
The Sea Savers campaign on various environmental issues including coffee pod recycling, accessible boat trips and importantly, keeping the sea clean. A spokesperson said the ceremony in Glasgow gave them the chance to make connections with like-minded organisations of young people and they can’t wait to build on these for the future.
Gairloch Community Car Scheme held a successful fundraising soup lunch last week raising £675.
Organisers described the amount raised as fantastic and thanked everyone working on the day and behind the scenes for their efforts along with everyone who attended and contributed to the funds raised.
