This year’s Community Christmas Hampers fund for the Gairloch and Loch Ewe areas has received a boost with a donation of £2,000 from the North Highland Initiative. The hamper organisers have expressed their thanks and have confirmed the donation means a great deal for the whole community.

The North Highland Initiative is a non-profit organisation established in 2005 as a result of King Charles’ commitment to support the people and business of the North Highlands. It collaborates with local businesses, organisations, and individuals to foster innovation, create employment and enhance the quality of life for the people living in this unique and beautiful part of Scotland.

A successful rescue operation took place last Friday on the shores of Loch Ewe when the RNLI lifeboat from Lochinver and an HM Coastguard helicopter responded to a call to help a walker who had fallen and was injured.

The casualty was located and flown by helicopter to Raigmore Hospital with a spokesperson for the RNLI praising the team work involved in the rescue mission.

The Highland Council has announced a new funding package to replace information services previously provided by the National Autistic Society to parents and carers of children with autism in the Highlands.

The new arrangement is with Thriving Families, a Highland charity serving families supporting children with Additional Support Needs, working along with The Pines Partnership whose website received 140,000 hits last year. A new website will be set up including pages specifically for children and young people, providing key information and sources of support, as well as guidance for the adults supporting those children and young people on how to ensure their voices are heard.
