Inverewe Garden, near Poolewe, has ranked second in a new list of Scotland’s most scenic autumn attractions.
The 54-acre botanical garden is recognized for its extensive collection of plants from around the world.
The survey compilers say autumn gives visitors a different experience, with the garden staying green while the surrounding Highland landscape turns to heather and bracken.
Its collection includes Wollemi pines, Himalayan blue poppies and Tasmanian eucalypts, alongside native trees taking on their autumn colours.
Created by Osgood Mackenzie in 1862, it is now owned and managed by the National Trust for Scotland.
There’s more recognition for The Dipping Lugger in Ullapool, with the restaurant and rooms retaining all four of its AA awards.
Owners Robert Hicks and Helen Chalmers have retained the five-star Gold Restaurant with Rooms Award, three AA Rosettes for Culinary Excellence, the AA Breakfast Award for a fifth consecutive year, and a Notable Wine List Award.
An AA inspector praised the 18th-century former manse for its high levels of service and hospitality, as well as its dining.
The inspector also highlighted the restaurant’s focus on Ullapool’s famous seafood, with seasonal tasting-menus among the options.
