Ullapool athlete Stephen Mackenzie has topped the podium at the UK Athletics National Championships in Birmingham this weekend.
Stephen in the Long Jump, leapt a Scottish Record and took the Gold medal as the British champion, with a final round jump of 8.15metres. This not only broke the National Record, but has gained him an automatic place at the European Championships in August in Birmingham.

Coigach Community Development Company has received the final funding which will go towards its aim to build its first affordable housing in the area for over 50 years. They are set to build 10 new homes for social rent in the Achiltibuie area on the site of the former Hydroponicum, which has been vacant for a period of time. The CCDC has received £1.85 million pounds from the Scottish Government Rural Housing Fund, as well as funds from Highland Council and Scottish and Southern Energy. The Community led charitable organisation is now ready to break ground on the site in Achiltibuie having secured the final funds required to go ahead.
And it’s a silver medal success for an Ullapool business….
In the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2026, Highland Liquor Company has been awarded a Silver medal for its Seven Crofts Gin: Fisherman’s Strength. Entries for this prestigious Competition are double blind tasted, with samples then evaluated collectively. Overall the competition covers 7 different categories, including, Gin, Scotch Whisky, World Wide Whisky, Rum, Agave, Vodka and Other spirits. Silver medals were awarded to those who had been scored over 94 points by the judges.
