SSEN have intimated that further ground investigation works for its Western Isles Link Project will take place next week starting on Monday.

In total, 50 locations have been identified along the project route, with the majority situated in the Dundonnell area but others around Contin and Muir of Ord and along the A835. The works will involve one excavator and two operatives who will be responsible for recording and sampling data at each site. Each trial pit is expected to take approximately one hour to complete.

In some locations, temporary traffic management measures will be in place, including the use of temporary traffic lights, to ensure safe offloading and unloading of equipment. Maps indicating precise locations are available on the SSEN website.

In 2025, The Highland Council launched the Reuse and Repair Fund making £500,000 available over a two year period for community groups throughout the Highlands.

The beneficiaries of the first round of funding totalling over £270,000 have been announced. Included is the Lochbroom and Ullapool Community Trust which will receive £46,239 for its New Broom Depot.

All the funded projects aim to empower communities to extend the life of materials through reuse, repair and upcycling alongside providing communities with workshops and initiatives which can teach individuals repair, mending and creative reuse skills.

The fund will reopen for the next round in April this year with further details available on the Connect with Opportunities page on BeConnected, from the Highland Council website.
