The annual Portree RNLI Open Day, which attracts locals and visitors from all over the world, was held last Saturday when over £25,000 was raised for the RNLI.
The event included a demonstration by the new Portree lifeboat Peter and Mary, various fundraising activities and displays from other emergency services, with the total raised expected to rise with further donations coming in following the event.
The new lifeboat replaces the retiring Trent class RNLI boat Stanley Watson Barker, which has been based at Portree for 30 years. The new vessel, which is powered by water jets rather than conventional propellors, officially took over the call sign of Portree Lifeboat on 1st June and had its first call out shortly after when it was called to Loch Gairloch on account of two paddleboarders being in difficulty.
A spokesperson for the organisers of the open day said that hundreds of people had attended and he extended thanks to the many businesses, organisations, and members of the public who supported the RNLI with donations and who offered incredible prizes for their silent auction.
