The temporary traffic lights on the A835 at Check Rail Corner in Garve are to be staffed for the remainder of the project.

The move follows a complaint from Garve and District Community Council, regarding the wholly unacceptable and life-threatening situation caused by repeated failure of the temporary lights.

The council said it had asked BEAR Scotland, to instruct contractor Alba Traffic Management, to operate the temporary lights at both ends of the roadworks until the works are complete.

A meeting with the Principal Engineer has been scheduled for next week.

A new fund to help bring empty homes back into use will be launched by Highland Council later this month.

Highland has more than two thousand long-term empty properties, with 41% vacant for more than three years. Grants of up to thirty thousand pounds in rural areas, and twenty-five thousand in towns and cities, will be available. Homes must have been empty for at least a year, and then be used either as affordable rentals or as the owner’s main home for five years.

Other steps to boost housing supply are also being taken, including unlocking investment, freeing up land and speeding up planning.

Teams from Wester Ross Youth Football Club, from P4&5 and P5&6, took part along with teams from Lochbroom FC in a junior football tournament on Saturday.

The games were close fought, with some good football on display from both sides and good support from parents and others. Skye Taylor and Gillies Grant were declared players of the match for Lochbroom, with Ben Matheson and Finlay McWhinney the same for Wester Ross.

All the players enjoyed the day and are looking forward to next month, when Lochbroom will travel to Gairloch for the return fixture.
