A Collision Investigation Review of the A835/A832 junction at Gorstan has recently been carried out by Transport Scotland and its operating company BEAR Scotland and has recommended measures aimed at improving road safety at the junction including improved signage and refreshed road markings. A speed activated sign in Garve will also be included.
At present, the scheme is programmed to progress through the design stage during the 2026/27 financial year with construction scheduled thereafter and the works likely to be completed in the early part of the 2027/28 financial year.
A company owning several hotels in the Highlands including the Ben Wyvis Hotel in Strathpeffer has entered administration putting at risk the jobs of 410 staff throughout the group.
The administrators confirmed that the company will continue to operate as normal while options for the business moving forward are assessed and reviewed. Other Highland hotels in the group include the Nethybridge Hotel and two in Fort William.
Following the restoration and opening of Inverness Castle to the public, the Highland Council is considering restoring the floral clock which had been installed in the grounds of the Castle in 1990 as part of a Beautiful Scotland in Bloom competition.
The clock was removed in 2016 when it had stopped working and was deemed to be beyond economic repair. The cost of replacement is now estimated at £64,000 with annual maintenance costs in the region of £32,000. Other options for the area in front of the castle include maintaining flower beds or turfing over the ground.
Ross County maintained its unbeaten start to the football season when it beat Championship side Dunfermline Athletic two one on Saturday to qualify for the quarter finals of the Premier Sports Scottish League Cup.
In the quarter finals, County has been drawn to play Hibs at home in a match which will be played on the weekend of 12th and 13th September.
