An innovative new project to support well-being by helping people living with dementia get closer to nature is taking place this month at a major rewilding estate in the Highlands. The pilot research project has been co-designed by the University of the Highlands and Islands in collaboration with Trees for Life’s Dundreggan Rewilding Centre in Glenmoriston.

The organisers say that although Scotland’s natural and cultural heritage is one of the country’s greatest shared assets, barriers such as rural isolation, lack of opportunity, accessibility and confidence can limit who feels able to access its benefits. The residential experience will enable people living with dementia, and their care partners, to spend three days at Dundreggan taking part in a programme of nature-rich activities to boost their physical, social and mental wellbeing.

The project is being funded by The Scottish Funding Council Innovation Fund Voucher scheme which fosters collaboration between Scottish organisations and universities or colleges.

The National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music has announced details of its annual S6 tour which forms an important part of life at the Plockton Music School. This year the tour includes concerts in Gairloch and Ullapool on 29th and 30th March respectively with other concerts throughout the Northern Highlands and Islands.

The Centre is financed by The Highland Council in partnership with the Scottish Government’s Department of Education and Lifelong Learning with students recently receiving support from the Knightswood and Agar Trusts. It is the only Centre of Excellence in Scotland dedicated to Scottish Traditional Music.

A commemorative ceremony will be held next month to mark the 85th anniversary of the loss of an Avro Anson aircraft on Ben More, Assynt which crashed on April 13, 1941, killing all six crew members.

The service will take place on Saturday, April 18 at the Old Kirk, Inchnadamph with relatives, veterans, and members of the public all welcome to attend. Veterans and serving personnel are invited to wear medals, and those wishing to lay wreaths or flowers may do so at the churchyard memorial.

In today’s football, Ross County travels to Perth to play Championship leader, St Johnstone, while in League One, Inverness Caley Thistle has a home game against Cove Rangers. Both matches kick off at three o’clock this afternoon.
