Local Headlines - 12 September 2025

Road users are warned that ‘Bridge to Bridge 2025’, the 77-mile Highland charity cycle, takes place tomorrow, Saturday 13th September.

The first participants are expected to depart from Kyleakin at 8.30 am and all participants must be at Kessock Bridge by 5.00 pm.

After crossing the Skye Bridge the route heads North from Kyle of Lochalsh on minor roads before joining the A890 north of Achmore.  The route continues to Achnasheen where it takes the A832 to Inverness via Muir of Ord.

There are no reported road closures, but the route will be busy with approximately 300 cyclists raising funds for The Leanne Fund, HALO and ‘This Is Me Highland’.

Kingussie hotelier Robert Marshall has joined forces with Laura Hanser, from the A9 Dual Action Group, to encourage tourist drivers to display ‘T-plates’, in the hope it will reduce accidents.

The plates, designed by Mr Marshall, feature a green letter “T” on a white background and have "tourist" written at the bottom.

The idea came after Mr Marshall had experienced the pressure of driving on the other side of the road, with every control and dial in a different place, while touring in Tenerife – and just wished everyone else realized he was a tourist.

Ms Hanser said she hoped that the plates would create space to allow foreign drivers to acclimatize to their surroundings, to the car and to the environment that they're driving in.

Transport Scotland have confirmed that the plates are legal to display.

And in the football this weekend ….

Ross County, still without a league match win since 1st March, travels to play Ayr United. Ayr is one point ahead of County in the Championship having played a game less.

In League One, Inverness also has an away game when it plays Cove Rangers, which is currently bottom of the league.

Both games take place tomorrow afternoon, with County's match kicking off at 3 o'clock, while Caley Thistle's game starts at 5.30 to allow for it being televised.
