A police raid on a derelict school in the Highlands has uncovered a cannabis farm with an estimated value of £7.1m.
The force said officers discovered the "sophisticated" operation while executing a warrant at the former Wick High School last week. More than 5,900 cannabis plants and dried cannabis with a potential value of £450,000 were uncovered. The school has been empty since 2017.

Scottish Opera’s ‘The Office Party’ will be coming to Gairloch on 24th February and the performance will take place in Gairloch Community Hall, as part of an 18 venue tour across Scotland this Spring. This World class Opera production staged and arranged by Scottish Opera, is preparing to visit smaller communities, hitting the road from February until mid-March. This idea of taking Opera out of the Opera House, and into our venues around Scotland, will provide an intimate, immediate and relatable production to varied audiences.
The Race to the Base: a trail half marathon to the foot of Suilven is set to return to Lochinver in May…
Organisers have announced that The Race to the Base, an inaugural half marathon which started in 2025, will be held on May 10th this year, beginning from Lochinver in Assynt. The race will cover 13.1 miles navigating through the Culag Woods with muddy trails and scenic views, culminating at the base of the iconic Assynt Mountain, Suilven. The course is described as being demanding, but beautiful and takes place amongst some of the most unique geology in the World.
