Local Headlines - 07 May 2026

Advanced warning has been given of the temporary closure of the C1087 Beallach Na Ba road to Applecross on Saturday 16th May.

The entire length of the road approximately 10 miles from its junction with the A896 Shieldaig–Kishorn–Lochcarron Road to its junction with the C1091 Applecross–Shieldaig (Coast) Road will be closed from 10am until 12.30pm on that day.
The closure is to facilitate the running of the Beallach Na Ba Cycle Sportive, an annual event with 500 cyclists entered this year. The Sportive has been revitalised in recent years since it was taken over by Shieldaig Community Association with all funds raised going towards local community causes.

During the closure, access to the road will only be permitted at the discretion of event organisers for emergency services, pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles requiring access to or from premises.

Nominations and entries for this year’s Highland Business Women Awards are now open.

Nine categories of awards are available including three which have not been made previously. Some of the categories are for members only, others are open to guests. Nominations close at midnight on Sunday 28th June with the awards ceremony taking place on Friday 28th August.
