Janet Miles, managing director of Gairloch and Lochewe Action Forum (GALE), is leaving to take up a new challenge with a Highland third sector organization.
Janet joined GALE in 1999 as its sole employee when it was known as LEAF (Loch Ewe Action Forum), a two-year-old development trust.
Now a director of the company, she is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of the organization, ensuring it delivers its mission and charitable purpose and creating a business that will grow and flourish.
GALE Chair, Michael Leng, said that her resignation was a surprise and tinged with sadness, but that he was confident GALE would build on the success that Janet had delivered.
SSEN Transmission and the Highland Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support long-term environmental and social benefits in the region.
The MoU establishes a joint strategy for compensatory planting, peatland restoration, and biodiversity enhancement in the region.
This supports large-scale nature restoration and habitat improvement with local partners.
It also ensures SSEN Transmission’s electricity network upgrades leave lasting benefits for communities and the environment.
The strategy will ensure that schemes are technically suitable for delivery and provide a list of suitable sites across the area.
Independent Age has announced a new round of its Boosting Advice Fund, as part of its continued fight against poverty in later life.
The national charity is providing one-point-six million to local organizations in UK regions with large populations of older people needing advice, including the Highlands.
Grants of up to one hundred-and-fifty thousand pounds over three years are available to support in-person guidance for older people, helping them reduce costs, increase income, and access financial support.
The closing date for submission of an Expression of Interest is 2pm on Wednesday 25th February.
