David Green, MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross has challenged the First Minister on the ongoing Highland oncology crisis….
Mr Green raised the issue at First Minister’s questions in the Scottish Parliament this week. Following a public meeting with the North Highland Cancer Information and Support Centre, the MSP has warned that the current staffing crisis is risking delays to treatment and could force patients to travel further for the care which is required. NHS Highland has confirmed that the oncology service is facing significant consultant workforce shortages.
Following an initial notice hat the Bealach na Ba would be closed for a 46 hour period over the 12th and 13th of September, Highland council have now advised that the road will remain open but with traffic restrictions.
Applecross Community Council said that on Monday evening they received notice from Highland Council saying that they had agreed that the road over the Bealach, the C1087, would be closed to traffic throughout Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th September 2026. Applecross Community Council had stated that this was the first they had heard of the proposal and commented that it was extremely short notice without any prior consultation. The resrictions will comprise of stop/go boards and will run between 8am and 6pm to 'allow a drone to film cars.'
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journies.

A final total of £1300 was donated to Highland Hospice, thanks to the fund raising efforts of those involved in the Heartbreak Hill Five Hour Challenge which took place in the Ullapool area on 13th June.
