Entries are now open for the Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards 2026. 

It is 20 years since the Awards were first introduced, which recognize the food and drink sector’s role in shaping a globally recognised, sustainable Highland economy, and support rural communities and commercial success.  Fifteen categories of awards will be available ranging from best restaurant to best new product including a sustainability award. The closing date for entries is Sunday 15th March with finalists being announced in April leading up to an awards ceremony and gala dinner in Inverness on 7th May.


An well known Scottish Author and mountaineer has revealed that there are hidden secrets on Loch Maree

Explorer Iain Cameron, who also maintains the nationwide record of snow patches remaining throughout Scotland, has discovered that Loch Maree, which contains almost 60 islands, also lays claims to a unique record in the UK. On Loch Maree there is a island, within which another small lochan (small loch) which is also located on an island. This is thought to be the only example of an Island within a loch, within an island within a loch, in the whole of the UK.


And in football news...
Ross County has the opportunity to make up ground on the teams above it in the league this evening when it has an away match against Dunfermline Athletic. Dunfermline is currently in fourth place, seven points ahead of County. The match kicks off at 7.45.
