Construction work adjacent to the A835 road between Glascarnoch Dam and Inchbae Lodge is scheduled to begin this week and may cause some delay to road users.
The works at the Black Bridge compound to support the Western Isles HVDC cable link on the mainland are expected to take between six and eight weeks to complete starting this Wednesday, 5th August. A three way traffic light system will be in place controlled manually and in operation when needed for safe access to the compound for construction vehicles.
Meanwhile, an update has been issued on the continuing works on the A835 at what is known as Check Rail Corner. Traffic management had previously been stated to be in place until November this year but according to the contractors, further delays have taken place due to vegetation loss and soil washout caused by heavy rain at the end of June, so completion of the work is now scheduled for March 2027.
A disused ferry store on the island of Raasay is being transformed into a community owned venison processing facility as part of a £750,000 investment helping five islands lead Scotland's journey to become carbon-neutral by 2040.
Almost £129,000 has been awarded for the new facility which will convert the former East Suisnish Ferry Pier Store into a solar-powered food production hub. Raasay has also received £78,000 to restore habitats by removing invasive species and planting 4,000 native trees. As well as cutting carbon emissions by around 136 tonnes a year, the venison processing facility will sustain local jobs, deliver butchery training and launch a "Hill to Plate" education programme in partnership with Raasay Primary School and nursery.
In the weekend football Ross County started the new season in League One on Saturday with a one nil win away from home against Peterhead. County’s goal was scored by captain Brian Graham after 66 minutes. In the Championship, Inverness Caley Thistle was held to a nil nil draw at home by Dunfermline Athletic.
