September has been declared Wellness Month by High Life Highland with the aim of shining a light on how everyone can improve their physical, mental and social wellbeing across all of the Charity’s services.
Wellness is defined as the act of practicing healthy habits in all areas of life,
including health, fitness, mindfulness, mental health and social well-being. Throughout September, High Life Highland offers activities to suit all ages and abilities with free 7 day passes to enable as many people as possible to experience what’s on offer. Albyn Housing Association is planning to build 600 affordable homes in the Highlands in the next 5 years with work due to begin shortly on the first 125 in various places including Ullapool.
The development is supported by a £10 million pound loan from Bank of Scotland. A spokesperson for Albyn said it is committed to helping to tackle the region's housing shortage, with a mixture of social rent, mid-market rent and shared equity housing.
Albyn is also reported to be in talks with Highland Hospice with a view to converting the upper floor of the former Mo Dhachaidh care home building in Ullapool into flats.
Police are appealing for information following a road accident on the A835 road near Leckmelm on Friday morning. A cyclist was taken to hospital by air ambulance after the crash between a car and her bicycle with the road being closed for around three hours.
Police say enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting ‘reference 0977 of August 29th.
