Caledonian MacBrayne have announced that the MV Glen Sannox will be staying in Stornoway…

The ferry Company has now also revealed that she will serve as a resilience vessel for all of the major routes amongst the Western Isles. She can operate on the Barra, Stornoway to Ullapool and all of the Skye triangle ports. This also means that she can quickly relieve any route if there is disruption elsewhere on the network, as well as providing additional capacity on the Stornoway to Ullapool route during the summer. 


The highest percentage of school leavers has been reached of those who are going into education  training, or work since records began…

Overall, the latest Summary of Statistics show that 93.5% of young people are heading for positive destinations, such as training, education or employment. This figure is at its highest level since records began with an increase in school leavers leaving for Higher Education or for Further Education. 


Conservationists have announced that it looks like an area of protected seabed which was destroyed by illegal fishing is showing early signs of recovery…

The area near the Summer Isles, by Achiltibuie, Coigach, was illegally damaged by a Dredger dragging its gear through the Marine Protected Area whilst fishing off Eilean Dubh. At the time extensive damage to the seabed was found to have taken place. However, it looks like the marine ecosystem is now showing signs of repair, giving a positive indication that if this area is protected from Trawlers and dredgers, then the seabed can begin to heal itself.
